Our History
Arizonian® Tires was founded in 1967 by John Smith, a third-generation tire maker from Akron, Ohio. John got his start working in his family’s tire manufacturing business after graduating from college. He quickly rose through the ranks due to his strong work ethic, technical skills, and eye for innovation.
By the mid-1960s, John felt ready to strike out on his own and launch his own tire company. He relocated to Arizona to establish Arizonian’s first factory and headquarters. The name Arizonian was chosen as an homage to the company’s home state.
In the early years, Arizonian focused on making durable, high-quality tires for passenger vehicles and trucks. John’s hands-on approach and obsessive attention to detail quickly earned Arizonian a reputation for manufacturing excellence.
Through the 1970s and 80s, the company expanded its production capacity and product line to keep pace with growing demand. Major milestones included the launch of Arizonian’s first tire designed specifically for SUVs in 1984 and the opening of a second US factory in South Carolina in 1989.
Today, Arizonian® Tires operates 5 factories and has over 3000 employees worldwide. We remain proudly headquartered in Arizona, where our roots run deep. What started as a small family business is now a leading global brand.
